a letter to you, on your birthday

ellie header postDear Ellie,

Today you turn 8. It’s hard to believe that much time has passed since you arrived here in my arms.

I wanted to share some things with you that I want you to never forget.

Never change. Not for anyone {especially a boy}. You are perfect just the way you are. You have a lively and vivacious spirit and bring light wherever you go! People will either choose to love you or leave you in life. Don’t change for them. True friends, true people and true love will accept you and embrace you for you!

“I am, you are.”  I tell myself this regularly. You cannot control others thoughts about you, words about you or anything else, for that matter. Keep in mind, your thoughts and actions shouldn’t be based on others opinions. Be strong and steadfast in the love you have for yourself and don’t let others control that.

Your body is perfect just the way it is. In a world that is based on outward looks and standards that are completely unattainable, look in the mirror and thank God for a beautiful and healthy strong body. We all have imperfections…stretch marks, moles, bumps, bruises, scars….those are you. They are part of your story and you shouldn’t be ashamed or embarrassed. Your beauty, true beauty shines from the inside. The most beautiful people in the world have a joy, and light that is inside of them. Your outward appearance is just a mere reflection of what is inside.

Eat healthy and workout. I tell you this not because this is a diet lifestyle but because God has given us this gift. The gift is our body and we should take care of it. When you can’t work out a day or two or you eat junk, don’t beat yourself up about it, you’re human, we all do it. However, pick yourself back up and get on the path you know you should be on. It is never too late.

Give. Make sure to give to people even when they can’t do the same for you. Serve others. Glorify God by being a humble servant.

Work. Take pride in your work. Work hard even when you don’t get praise for your efforts.

Stand up for yourself. Stand up for what you believe in.

Pray. Not just when you want something but pray to thank God for all that you have. Even when you feel you have nothing, you have more than some others could ever imagine.

Quality. Quality over quantity every time. Clothes, friends, everything.

Believe in yourself. Be confident and walk with your head held high.

Dream. Dream big and work hard and those dreams will soon be your reality! No dream is ever too big. Write your goals down. Your goals are your dreams on a deadline.

Lead. Be a leader, not a follower. Be a strong, independent, fierce woman.

Humble. Never let awards, recognition or followers lead your decisions or actions. Stay humble. Inspire and encourage others.

Laugh. Don’t take life too serious.

I love you. Remember that I will not always be here on this earth but I will always, always be here for you. I love you more than I could ever express. No matter how old you are, you will always be my baby and I am proud to be your mother.

You are one of my greatest accomplishments.
